
Hailed as an extraordinarily versatile artist, Marcello Giordani has a repertory
which encompasses a wide and diverse range of roles, spanning from the Bel Canto
operas of Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini and the lyricism of French operatic
repertoire, to the more dramatic roles of Verdi, Puccini and Berlioz and, most
recently, the popular Verismo operas of Mascagni and Leoncavallo: Cavalleria
Rusticana and I Pagliacci.
Mr. Giordani has established an extraordinary international career, performing
regularly on the world’s most prestigious concert stages and opera houses
including Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan, Covent Garden in London, Opernhaus in
Zürich, Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra National de Paris, Liceu in Barcelona, Deutsche
Oper in Berlin, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Maggio Musicale
Fiorentino, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro Regio in
Turin, Teatro Massimo “V. Bellini” in Catania, Arena di Verona, Festival
Pucciniano in Torre del Lago, working with the world’s leading conductors
including Daniele Gatti, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano and Georg
Solti.
A regular guest of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he made his debut
in 1993, he performed in several other productions, such as Madama
Butterfly, La Gioconda, La bohème, Simon Boccanegra,
Carmen, Un ballo in maschera, Ernani, Turandot, Roméo et
Juliette, Manon Lescaut, Lucia di Lammermoor, Madama Butterfly e La
fanciulla del West.
He opened the 2012/13 season gaining a great success with La forza del
destino at Liceu de Barcelona, followed by his Metropolitan Opera return
with the acclaimed performances of Turandot and Les Troyens.
Subsequently he returned to Italy to perform Un ballo in maschera at
Teatro Bellini di Catania. Among other recent engagements it is worth
mentioning: L’Africaine and Edgar with Opera Orchestra of New
York; Faust at Teatro alla Scala, Tosca and Un ballo in
maschera at Wiener Staatsoper; Tosca at Bayerische Staatsoper in
Munich, at Covent Garden in London and at Deutsche Oper in Berlin; Cavalleria
rusticana at Opéra National de Paris; Cavalleria rusticana and
Pagliacci at Liceu de Barcelona; La forza del destino at Teatro of
Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Les Troyens by Berlioz with Boston Symphony
Orchestra.
Marcello Giordani’s future plans include Tosca at Deutsche Oper in
Berlin, at Liceu in Barcelona and in Seoul; Aida and Tosca at
Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna; Turandot at the Teatro dell’ Opera in Rome
and at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago; Carmen and Tosca at
Munich Staatsoper, La fanciulla del west and Turandot in Bilbao;
Les Troyens at the San Francisco Opera; Carmen in Dresden; Un
Ballo in Maschera in Hamburg;
Pagliacci in Cagliari. On the concert side,
he will perform in a series of lyric concerts
at the Wigmore Hall in London, in Toronto, in Tokyo and in Moscow. In the next
seasons Mr. Giordani will be engaged in important productions at the
Metropolitan Opera in New York.
